Carmen Basilio’s Manager Joe Netro Signed And Dated 1919 Postcard.
Joe Netro, who helped manage Carmine Basin° to the welter weight and middleweight box ing championships in the fifties.
Mr. Netro began his career as a fight manager while he was writing a boxing column for the former Syracuse Jour nal in the twenties. Besides Basilio, he managed such fight ers as Babe Risco, Jess Doctor, Bucky Lawless, Caveman Fish er and Paul Sykes.
There are many articles in the Syracuse, New York papers that talk about Joe in the boxing world. I checked because of the date on this postcard and the articles were from the early 20’s as well as the 50’s, possibly some in between but i was basically looking to see what he was doing around the time of this postcard. He was definitely in the boxing scene then!
Postcard is a little dirty from not being protected. It was in a scrap book but one of those with black paper pages, coloring may have come from that. Was not glued but just in there.
